Montreal, QC, Canada (May 17, 2015) – The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), representing the research and education arm of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, announced the election of its new President, Neal R. Reisman, MD, JD today. With an extensive research and education background in plastic surgery and broad experience stemming from his practice serving as a clinical professor of plastic surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine and chief of plastic surgery at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Dr. Reisman will bring new perspectives and initiatives to the role. Reisman succeeds Al Aly, MD, who has served as the ASERF president for the past year.
“It has been a privilege serving as ASERF’s President for the 2014 – 2015 term. As my successor, Dr. Reisman is a proven leader with vast experience which will serve well to advance ASERF’s mission, shaping the aesthetic surgery landscape through evidence-based research findings that benefit patients, physicians and the entire field of medicine,” noted Dr. Aly.
Dr. Reisman is a graduate from the Temple University School of Medicine, (where he completed his general surgery residency), and plastic surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, with additional fellowships in Great Britain and Baltimore, Maryland. He has pioneered the Split-Muscle Natural Breast Augmentation and Short-Scar Mini facelifts, and served as the chief of surgery at numerous hospitals in the Houston area. Dr. Reisman obtained his law degree from South Texas College of Law and has lectured and written extensively on cosmetic surgery, ethics and the business of plastic surgery, and medico-legal issues relating to plastic surgery, presenting and publishing more than 300 articles and talks to date.
“I am honored to be taking on this role as ASERF is a top resource for research and education pertaining to aesthetic surgery. During my term in office, I hope to increase scientific awareness in evidence-based aesthetic surgery among plastic surgery residents and to facilitate practice management and research that will advance the safe practice of aesthetic surgery, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes,” noted Dr. Reisman.
