Am I a good candidate for breast reduction?
Am I a good candidate for breast reduction? I am 50 years old with a 5'1” small frame. From age 12, I was ridiculed about my breast size. My breasts seem to be the only thing people focus on, so I no longer date. Lately I have been having severe neck and back pains. My shoulders have very deep groves from years of heavy breasts. I can't seem to find the right bra size, sometimes wearing two. One for support and one for full coverage. By the way, I'm weighing at 185. What is my best option?
The complaints you have are consistent with other women I have seen for breast reduction. However, until you have had an evaluation one would not be able to say for sure. You should start with a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Breast reduction would be a good solution for you, however you might want to lose weight before the procedure to get your BMI under 30.
Thank you for your question. Based on your symptoms of back pain/neck pain , findings of shoulder grooving and breasts out of proportion to your frame it sounds like a breast reduction would be very beneficial. I would advise you to contact your insurance company to see if breast reduction is a covered benefit and what is the criteria to qualify for the procedure. Then visit with several board certified plastic surgeons for a consultation. Best wishes.
It sounds like you might a very good candidate for breast reduction, but the best way to know is to have a consultation and ask about your options from a board certified plastic surgeon in your community. A search of this site will lead you to reputable surgeons who are members of ASAPS.
